About Tag.

Tag is a notebook for stand-up comics. Catch a premise the moment it happens, work it into bits in twelve formats, from one-liners and act-outs to crowd work, each on its own index card, then take your set on stage on a dark, big-type set list with the light where you’ll see it.

The Desk knows tonight: your next spot with a countdown and the set it’s for, your act fanned out like cards, and last night’s record. With Tag Plus, the tape counts the laughs bit by bit on your phone and shows which version of a joke worked.

The coach is optional. Leave it off and nothing you write leaves your phone except to your own iCloud. Turn it on and it marks up your lines with a red pen; it never changes your words by itself.

Catch it before it’s gone

A premise lasts about as long as the walk to the car.

Tap CATCH A PREMISE on the Desk, say “Tag this in Tag” to Siri, or use the Lock Screen widget, the Control Center button or the Apple Watch. Share text, a link or a voice memo into Tag from any app; memos are transcribed on your iPhone and split into separate ideas at the pauses.

Twelve ways to tell it

From a one-liner to crowd work.

Every bit has a format: one-liner, setup and punch, rule of three, question and answer, compare and contrast, wordplay, story, act-out, roast line, crowd work and more. Each gives the bit the right shape on the page, and every bit moves from idea to draft to trying out to in the act.

The light, where you’ll see it

Big type, cue words, and a light you can feel.

Tap PERFORM and the stage shows one bit per page in big type, or the whole set as cue words, crossed off as you go. A spotlight warms as the light gets close, the edges glow amber in the last minute and red at the light. The set, the clock and the light sit on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and your Apple Watch taps your wrist a minute before the light and at it.

Tag's stage past the light: the set as cue words, three crossed off, Camping kids narrate lit in large type, the clock at 5:06 in red and the screen's edges glowing red

The tape counts the laughs

Which version got the laugh, bit by bit. Tag Plus.

Turn on TAPE and Tag records the set with the screen off or the phone in your pocket. With Tag Plus (an in-app purchase) it hears the laughs and applause on each bit with Apple’s on-device sound classifier, times them against the punch word, transcribes what you actually said, and makes the night a poster to share. Every night goes on the bit’s record, and the recording never leaves your phone.

A red pen, not a ghostwriter

Off, notes in the margin, or a writing partner.

Choose when you first open Tag and change it any time. Notes in the margin gives you the red pen: it draws on your own words, a line through what to cut and a loop round the word that turns it, and you accept each mark one at a time. Writing partner adds whole rewrites and riffs on a premise. With the coach off, Tag never contacts our server.

Your notebook, everywhere

iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

Tag syncs through your own private iCloud, so the iPad on the desk and the phone in your pocket hold the same notebook. Paste in the notes you already have on day one, share a bit as a card or a set as a PDF, and export everything as one Markdown file whenever you like.

Tag's Library: every bit as an index card with a red header line, its status stamped in the corner, its runtime, rating, record and laughs per minute
