Tag Support

Tag is a notebook for comics on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch: premises, bits in twelve formats, sets, the tape of your nights, and a coach you can leave off. Here is how the main parts work and what to do when something looks off.

Getting started

The first screens ask where you are in comedy and how the coach should work: off, notes in the margin, or writing partner. You can paste in the notes you already have; blank lines separate ideas, and a list becomes one idea per line. Change any of it later in Settings, the gear on the Desk. To add more notes later, use Bring your notes in, also in Settings.

Catching a premise

Tap CATCH IT on the Desk, or tell Siri “Tag this in Tag”, or use the Lock Screen widget or the Control Center button. You can also share text, a link or a voice memo into Tag from another app, or say a premise into the Apple Watch app. Anything that arrives while Tag is closed shows under Came in on the Desk.

Voice memos

In Voice Memos, share a memo to Tag. Tag transcribes it on your iPhone and splits it into ideas at long pauses or when you say “next one”. Tick the ones to keep. Transcription needs your iPhone to recognize your language on the device; if it can’t, Tag says so instead of sending audio anywhere.

Recording a set and counting laughs

Open a set and tap PERFORM →. Turn on TAPE before you start; it keeps recording with the screen off or the phone in your pocket. When you finish, Tag asks how each bit went. With Tag Plus it listens for laughs while you rate and can transcribe each bit. Laughs are counted and transcripts made on your iPhone, and the recording stays there.

Cue words, the light and your Lock Screen

On stage, tap CUES to see the whole set as cue words; a bit's cue is its name if you gave it one. The light warms the screen in the last minute and glows red at your time. The set also shows on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island; if it doesn't, check Settings › Tag › Live Activities. On Apple Watch, open Tag once and allow notifications so it can tap your wrist at the light.

Your next spot

On the Desk, tap Got a spot coming up? to add where and when, and pick the set. The Desk counts down to it and puts Perform one tap away. Run it, in Tag Plus, times a run-through at home bit by bit and can keep those times for the set.

Tag Plus

Tag Plus is an optional in-app purchase: $29.99 a year with a 14-day free trial for new subscribers, $3.99 a month, or $79.99 once. It adds laughs counted on your tapes, transcripts, the night poster, the set builder, gigs and your year, and Run it. To restore it on a new device, open any Plus feature and tap Restore purchases. Manage or cancel a subscription in Settings › your name › Subscriptions at least 24 hours before it renews. If Plus ends, nothing you wrote, taped or logged is locked.

Syncing between iPhone and iPad

Tag syncs your notebook through your own private iCloud. Sign in to the same Apple Account on both devices and check that iCloud is on for Tag in Settings › your name › iCloud. Recordings and voice memos stay on the device that made them; what Tag learned from them (the laughs, the transcript) syncs.

Apple Watch

Install Tag on your Watch from the Watch app on your iPhone. CATCH A PREMISE sends what you say to your iPhone. Your sets appear on the Watch after you open Tag on the phone.

The coach isn’t answering

Check the coach setting in Settings: with the coach off, its buttons are hidden and Tag never contacts our server. The coach needs a network connection. If it says to wait, give it a minute and try again.

Exporting your notebook

Settings › Export the whole notebook, or EXPORT at the top of the Library, makes one Markdown file of everything you’ve written. A set or premise can also be shared as a PDF.

Deleting everything

Delete anything in the app. To remove everything Tag keeps in iCloud, open the Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud, and manage the storage for Tag.
