Getting around

Swipe left to ride to the next stop and right to go back, or tap the Next stop board at the bottom. Tap How it works for the mechanism behind an idea. The small transfer button at the top right, or Change here for at the bottom of a stop, takes the interchange to the next subject. The map button at the top right opens the map, with Where to?, the service board, your Kept stops and Settings (the gear). On iPad the map is always on the left.

Adding a subject or a class

Open the map and type in Where to?. If the subject isn't on the map, tap Build a line to it, or Add a class for a course or an exam. Tangent writes the first stops within about ten seconds and shows the line being built while it works. If it says it couldn't, tap Retry. A few things are declined because they don't work as learning topics or aren't suitable for a 4+ app; the reason is shown. A class can also import a syllabus from pasted text or a photo: open its line and tap Syllabus and units.

Riding one line

Open a line on the map and tap Only this line, or choose Ride only that line from a stop's More menu. Tangent stays on that line and its neighbors. Tap the × on the pill to ride every line again.

Changing your level

Settings, How Tangent talks to you. Your interests and kept stops stay. A stop's More menu has Simpler and Go harder for that line only; Settings can reset those nudges.

Tangent Plus

Tangent is free: all twenty-four lines with their diagrams, interchanges, guess-first stops, return stops, your map, sharing, and two lines of your own. Tangent Plus is an optional in-app purchase that adds unlimited lines of your own, classes, and stops written for middle school, high school or an expert. It is $29.99 a year with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers, $4.99 a month, or $59.99 once. Family Sharing is supported.

To restore a purchase on a new device, open Settings and tap Restore purchases, or tap Restore on the plans screen. To cancel a subscription, tap Manage subscription in Settings, or open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews and you won't be charged again; Plus stays on until the end of the period you paid for. For refunds, use reportaproblem.apple.com; Apple handles all payments.

Starting over

Settings, Start over, Forget everything. This removes your level, interests, kept stops, your own lines, your map and reading history from the device. Nothing was ever stored anywhere else. It does not cancel a subscription.

A stop is wrong

The 120 stops on the 24 lines were created for Tangent and ship with the app. Stops for lines you add are written by a model and checked against a content policy, not by a person. Either kind can contain an error: share the stop and send it to hello@apexmade.ai with what's wrong. We'll fix or remove it.
