Tangent Privacy

Overview

This privacy policy describes how Tangent, an app made by Apex Made, LLC, handles information you provide while using it. It applies only to Tangent; other Apex Made apps each have their own policy.

What we collect

• Your level (middle school, high school, curious adult or expert) and, if you give one, a school grade. Never an age or a birthdate. These are stored on your device and sent with each request for new stops so they are written at the right level.
• The names of subjects and classes you add, sent once each so Tangent can work out what you mean and write stops for them.
• A syllabus you choose to import for a class, as pasted text or a photo, sent once so the units can be laid out. Tangent asks the model to keep only the subject matter; the text or photo is not stored by us.
• A random installation id created on first launch, sent with requests for new stops so one installation can't run up our costs. It is not linked to you, and deleting the app deletes it.
• Everything else — what you read, how long you linger, what you keep, your interests, your map, your own lines and their stops — stays on your device. No account, no analytics or tracking SDKs, no advertising identifiers.

Third parties

• Anthropic, PBC — provides the Claude API that writes new stops. Your level, optional grade and subject name are sent to Anthropic via our proxy. Anthropic does not train on data submitted through their API per their commercial terms. See Anthropic's privacy policy at https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
• Cloudflare, Inc. — hosts the proxy that holds our Anthropic API key, forwards requests, and caches written stops so a popular subject is written once. Cloudflare may process request metadata as part of standard hosting. See Cloudflare's privacy policy at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Sharing

Stops and your map are rendered as images on your device. Nothing is shared until you choose a destination in the iOS share sheet.

Notes

• Tangent ships with 120 stops on 24 lines, so it works instantly and offline. New stops are written when a line you like is running low, when you change level, or when you add a subject or class.
• Stops written for a subject are cached on our proxy by subject and level, without any reference to who asked, so the next person who adds the same subject gets them at once.
• We do not require an account. The app authenticates to our proxy with a shared secret baked into the build plus the random installation id above.

Data retention & deletion

Data stored on your device stays on your device until you delete the app or clear its data from iOS Settings. To request deletion of any data we may hold, email hello@apexmade.ai.

Children’s privacy

Tangent is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in-app.
