Numinous Privacy

A reflection feed that scrolls like social media, and then ends.

Overview

This privacy policy describes how Numinous, an app made by Apex Made, LLC, handles information you provide while using it. It applies only to Numinous; other Apex Made apps each have their own policy.

What we collect

• Numinous sends Apex Made nothing. There is no account, and no Apex Made server stands behind the app; the only way anything reaches us is an email you choose to send.
• Your kept passages and when each is due to come back, the lines you write in your journal, your journey progress, the themes you picked when you started, your settings, what the feed learns about the themes and passages you linger on, which passages you've already read, how long you stayed with each passage in your latest session, and simple totals such as how many sessions and minutes you've spent are stored on your device, in Numinous's own storage. They're included in your device backups like any app's data.
• Nothing else. No ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party SDKs.

Third parties

None. Numinous uses no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party services or SDKs, and the app makes no network requests of its own. Apart from iCloud sync, which runs on Apple's infrastructure and is described below, and the copy your iPhone passes to your own Apple Watch, data leaves your device only when you choose to send it: a shared passage, a journal export or an email.

iCloud sync

If "Sync with iCloud" is on (it is by default, and you can turn it off in Settings › Your devices), your kept passages and when they come back, your journal, your journey progress, the themes you picked when you started, and your settings are kept in step across your devices through your own iCloud account, using Apple's iCloud key-value storage. Synced data lives in your personal iCloud account under Apple's privacy policy and is protected by your Apple Account. Apex Made cannot see it. What the feed has learned about your reading, and any unfinished journal line, is not synced; it stays on each device. Turning sync off stops Numinous sending changes to iCloud but leaves the copy already there; Forget everything removes it.

Apple Watch

The Watch app works out the day's passage from the passages built into it. Your iPhone sends it your kept passages, the traditions you've turned on and the line to carry from your last session, over Apple's Watch Connectivity. Nothing goes back to the iPhone, and this data moves only between your own devices.

Siri & Shortcuts

"Today's passage", "Sit with a theme" and "Breathe" work with Siri and Shortcuts under Apple's terms. The app chooses today's passage on your device from the passages built into it, and Siri can read it back to you. Apex Made does not receive your requests.

Widgets

The Carry today widget on your Home Screen and Lock Screen, and the Today complication on Apple Watch, show the line to carry from your last session or the passage of the day. The widget reads that line from a shared space on your device, and the complication from the copy your iPhone sent your Watch; each works out the day's passage itself. Nothing goes to us.

Notifications

Numinous sends no notifications.

Sharing

Share as image and Send to someone make a picture of the passage, with its citation and source, on your device and hand it to the iOS share sheet along with a text copy of the passage and its citation; Send to someone adds the line "I came across this today and thought of you." Neither includes anything you wrote. A journal export is plain text made on your device: your lines, the questions they answer, their dates and themes, and the passages they came from. Each goes only where you choose to send it.

Notes

• Every passage, context note, question, practice and journey ships inside the app, so Numinous works offline. Which passage comes next is chosen on your device from your own reading.
• Links in the app, such as a source's "Checked against this copy" or findahelpline.com, open in your browser only when you tap them, and Call 988 opens your Phone app.
• If you email us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to answer you and fix the problem.

Data retention & deletion

Everything Numinous keeps stays on your device, and in your iCloud if sync is on, until you remove it. Settings › Forget everything erases your kept passages, journal, journey progress, settings and what the feed has learned from this device, and removes the copy in your iCloud. Another iPhone or iPad with sync on still has its own copy and can put it back in iCloud, so use Forget everything on each device. Turning off Sync with iCloud, or deleting the app, does not remove the copy in iCloud; use Forget everything first. Deleting the app removes what's on that device. Forget everything also tells your Apple Watch to clear its copy of your kept passages and carry line, which it does the next time Numinous opens on the Watch. Apex Made holds no copy of your data. Children’s privacy

Numinous is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in-app.
