Face Down Privacy

Overview
This privacy policy describes how Face Down, an app made by Apex Made, LLC, handles information you provide while using it. It applies only to Face Down; other Apex Made apps each have their own policy.
What we collect
- There is no account, and every table is deleted six hours after its last activity. Apex Made runs a small server (Cloudflare Workers and Durable Objects) only to run live tables. While a table is open, it holds each player's display name (what they typed, up to 20 characters), whether each player's phone is face down, the house rule and the round's timing. The deletion is automatic: nothing is kept after it, and nothing is linked to an identity.
- To stop abuse, the server counts the tables each IP address creates in a short window; the counter expires after about two minutes. Like most web services, the server also keeps standard request logs (which include IP addresses) for a few days, only for troubleshooting. IP addresses are not used for anything else.
- Face Down has no analytics: no usage counts, no tracking and no advertising identifiers, in the app, the App Clip or the web player.
- Your round history, saved tables and settings are stored on your iPhone, in the app's own storage. There is no iCloud sync.
- Nothing else. No analytics SDKs, no ads, no tracking and no third-party SDKs. Face Down's App Store privacy label lists two kinds of data, both not linked to you and used only to run the game: User Content (the names and house rules above, while a table exists) and Other Data (IP addresses in the short-lived abuse counter and in the server's standard request logs).
Third parties
- Cloudflare, Inc. — hosts the server that runs live tables (Cloudflare Workers and Durable Objects), and the short-lived counter that stops abuse. Cloudflare may process request metadata as part of standard hosting. See Cloudflare's privacy policy at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
iCloud sync
There is no iCloud sync in Face Down. Round history, saved tables and settings stay on your iPhone.
At the table
Everyone at a table sees the display names, the house rule, whose phone is down and who picked up, on their own phones. The name you type is the only thing about you that the table sees, and it doesn't have to be your real one. Anyone with the table's code, QR or link can join while it's open, so share it with the people you're with.
On your device only
- Motion sensors, to know your phone is face down. Motion data never leaves the phone; only whether it's face down, and when it stopped being, is sent to the table.
- The camera, only to scan a table's QR. No image leaves the phone or is saved.
- The sounds, synthesized on your iPhone, and the loser's name, spoken by your iPhone's built-in voice.
- Round history, saved tables and settings, kept in the app's storage on your iPhone.
- The Practice table, where you play against a simulated player named Robin. It runs entirely on your iPhone and never contacts our server.
Playing in a browser
If you join from a browser, the web player uses your phone's orientation sensor to tell whether it's face down and keeps the screen awake while you play. The sensor readings stay in the browser; only whether your phone is face down is sent to the table. Your name and a token that lets you rejoin your seat are stored in the browser's local storage on your device. Clear the site's data in your browser to remove them.
Purchases
Face Down Plus is sold through the App Store, using Apple's StoreKit. Apple handles the payment; Apex Made never sees your payment details, name or Apple Account. The app asks the App Store, on your device, whether your Apple Account holds Plus and remembers the answer on your device.
Siri & Shortcuts
"Start a table", "Join a table" and "Practice table" work with Siri and Shortcuts under Apple's terms, and run in the app the same as tapping them. Apex Made does not receive your requests.
Sharing
Share cards, for Stories or square, show how long the table held and who picked up. They're made on your iPhone and go only where you send them from the share sheet. Sharing a table's link or QR shares only that table's code.
Notes
- Your seat at a table is held by a random token that isn't linked to you or your device, and it's deleted with the table.
- If you email us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to answer you.
Data retention & deletion
A table's data on our server (display names, face-down state, the house rule and the round's timing) is deleted automatically 6 hours after its last activity, and nothing is kept after that. The abuse counter expires after about two minutes, and request logs after a few days. Round history, saved tables and settings stay on your iPhone until you delete the app. In a browser, your name and rejoin token stay in that browser's storage until you clear the site's data. To ask about any data we may hold, email hello@apexmade.ai.
Children’s privacy
Face Down is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in-app.
